Wednesday, August 26: Day 75

Tonight I had a combined birthday get-together with Amy Rock and Annette Ford, two good friends from my ward. Amy is from Barrow, and Annette is from Colorado, and here we are all together in Anchorage, being friends! Anchorage is pretty cool that way. It seems like everyone is from somewhere else. So you can learn about lots of different places. Amy, for example, being from Barrow has tons of stories about whale hunting. We watched a documentary from National Geographic about whale hunters in Barrow and she knew nearly everyone on the show. It was pretty fun. Then we decorated our cake. It was mostly just for fun, not for looks. We were just practicing different things and experimenting with new tips.

Okay, here's a clip from wikipedia about Barrow: "There are freezing temperatures on an average of 324 days per year.[8][9] Freezing temperatures, and snowfall, can occur during any month of the year.[7]
Barrow is a desert, with an average of less than 5 in (127 mm) "equivalent rainfall" per year, which includes less than 30 in (76 cm) of snow." For the whole thing, click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrow,_AK. It's truly a fascinating place.
