Thursday, September 3: Day 84

This was the view from the house we had dinner at tonight. Judge Sedwick, one of the judges at the court that Matthias works at, but not the one he clerks for has a dinner for all of the court clerks each year at about this time. It's always a good time and this year in particular, I noticed the sunset from their dining room. The great part about Alaska is not only the beauty, as shown in the pictures, but the people. They are really down to earth and not in the competitive rush that a lot of other places bring. So it was nice to find myself--not at all the fancy and formal type--feeling quite at home in a place that might normally feel stiff and confining to me. The judge and his wife, along with all who were there, were cracking jokes and just there to have a good time enjoying each other's company. There's something to be said for a place (no matter how cold it gets) where that can happen.
