Tuesday, July 7: Day 25

Today was a day of little things. Matthias came home early sick with a fever so I took care of him. It came down just enough for us to feel comfortable with going out to get new phones (because T-mobile's service stopped late last night). That with some exercise, cleaning, and planning out my mom's visit, made a day that seemed pretty busy but no pictures were taken. So here is a picture of a post card I bought awhile ago that has some pretty interesting AK facts. I love how it puts into perspective the size of Alaska compared to the lower 48:

Here are the facts listed:

--19 mountains over 14,000 ft.

--Highest point in North America, Mt. McKinley 20,320 ft.

--More area than the 26 smallest states.

--Purchased from Russia in 1867 for less than 2 cents an acre.

--Longest days, 24 hours of daylight

--More than 3 million lakes, larger than 25 acres.

--586,400 square miles

--1/5 the land mass of the entre continental U.S.

--More than two times the size of Texas

--29 active volcanoes, half the world's total

--More coastline than the lower 48 states, 33,000 miles

--More than 1/2 of the world's glaciers

--One glacier larger than Switzerland

Pretty amazing! Doesn't that make you just want to get in a plane and come visit?
