Saturday, July 4: Day 22

The 4th of July is right up there with Christmas for me. So I tried to pack the day in with some fun stuff. Early on in the morning, I dropped off a cake for my second ever client but forgot to get a picture of it! It was red velvet cake with a pretty simple design.
Then Matthias and I went hiking on a trail called Powerline Pass. It's at the same place where you can hike Flat Top mountain (the most popular hike around and gives great views of the inlet), which we did about a month ago. There were several places where the trail stemmed off so we took one called "Hidden Lake". Although we never found the lake, we did find a gorgeous creek with mossy rocks.

After getting cleaned up, we headed downtown because we had read online they had some antique cars and things like that to look at. We got there and walked around a bit and never found them. However, I did find a lady dancing with herself, so all was not lost.

I should have taken a picture of the shish-kabobs we made...delicious. Using my favorite marinade again, we alternated chicken with a variety of peppers (yellow, red, orange) and put it on top of some almond rice pilaf. Delicious? Yes, yes it was.

Finally, we made our way to the Pilot's baseball double hitter. We managed to find seats, which was quite the task. The really fun part was that after the game there was a fireworks show. We were lucky enough to have 2 shows, 1 in Eagle River (just outside of Anchorage) at midnight on July 3rd (so technically it was today) and another tonight, starting at about 12:30 a.m. (so I guess that's technically not today, but whatever). The first fireworks picture was in Eagle River, so a little bit earlier, and the sky was a little bit lighter. The second was just after the baseball game, so you can see the difference in the sky. I was happy that it was dark enough to enjoy them!
So even though I really missed having time with extended family and doing the things I'm normally used to doing, this was a pretty fantastic day with the two of us.
