Earthquake park is a place where there are some information displays and evidence of the earthquake that was up here in 1964. It was a 9.2 and did a lot of damage, some of which is still evident today. We went here on the way to other places and it was also a nice view of the coastline.
Here's a warty looking salmon we saw in Ship Creek. I think it's about 95 years old.
And of course, we had to go to Alaska Wildberry Store. Here is a Willy Wonka shrine next to the world's largest chocolate fountain. All of the main characters have signed the picture--very exciting.
Dog mushing 101 is the free class my mom and I went to as well. Becky liked it so much that we decided we need to do the one downtown on Monday that lets you hold the cute little puppies.
In the evening, we drove to Alyeska Resort, which is about 45 minutes South of Anchorage in Girdwood. We rode the tram up to a restaurant called Seven Glaciers and shared a few delicious desserts. We had great viewsfrom where we were eating of the mountains and then walked around a bit afterwards. It was cloudy, but we could still see enough to appreciate the awesome view.
Riding the tram and eating dessert up top was the highlight for me. Matthias and I definitely plan on doing this again and probably more than once. The tram ride is free if you make the reservation to eat at their restaurant, which ends up saving you money as long as you keep your eating simple. If we would have just paid for the tram for the 3 of us, it would have cost $54. As it was, we spent about $25. So they paid us $29 to ride the tram. Awesome!
